I also have a video on Youtube!
This is what I would say to the judges at the cosplay contest I am entering at DragonCon 2016!
My take on a Diablo III demon hunter was heavily inspired by and referenced using this picture I found online. I also referenced artwork by Zach Fischer. I worked up the motivation for this costume by playing Diablo III basically all day for three days. I love demon hunter because she is independent, powerful, and seeks justice. She never gives up. Everything was made by me with absolutely no help from anyone. I began planning, patterning, and blueprinting August 8th. I worked everyday for about 3 weeks for at least 8-10 hours a day when I was free.
The
hood is a lightweight fabric so that it doesn’t get too hot, with satin binding
used as a sort of bias tape alternative. I used puff paint to add details on
the binding. I weathered the end of the hood by chopping it up and burning the
edges. I literally caught it on fire.
I
bought, cut, and styled a wig for this but in the end I dyed my hair black and
used it so I don’t die of heatstroke
All
of the armor is made of craft foam and worbla. This was my first time using
worbla and my first time making this much armor. I am very proud with how it
came out! I look forward to trying other thermoplastics for my next costumes. I
used 1.5 jumbo sheets of worbla. All of the armor is connected and worn using
brown elastic and pleather strips along with velcro and D-rings. It’s primed
with wood glue and mod podge and spray painted silver. I painted the brown
parts with brown acrylic and weathered everything with watered down black
acrylic and an old rag. The shoulder pauldrons have EVA foam risers so they sit
higher on my shoulders and stay up
The
corset was bought, but I removed two panels on each side in the back because it
was too big.
The
shoes she wears are pirate style boots with armor. I decided it would be more
fund efficient and cooler to use a black heel with armor permanently attached
to the toe. I wrap my leg in strips of two way stretch suede and place the leg
armor over it and use a pleather strip to secure it
The
crossbows are carved out of insulation foam and sanded with a dremel and
sandpaper, then sandwiched in worbla. I used a car embellishment for the skull.
These were primed and painted just like the rest of the armor. I like them
because they are extremely lightweight but also very sturdy
The LED's on the hood are self adhering strips from a auto shop, in this case, AutoZone! The wiring leads to a button I store in one of the pouches on my hip. There are cheaper and better alternatives for this BUT I SUCK WITH ELECTRONICS :)
"Alpena Flex LED 6", Red"
I made the pattern myself for the pouches. I don't remember the fabric I used but it's a stiff brown fabric! I used puff paint to detail and black acrylic to weather the fabric.
The contacts are from Uniqso
The costume is 95% in these photos but HEY IT WORKS
